• Loose housing systems and stanchion-tied stables have equal room for cattle.
  • In more than 50% of loose housing systems, manure is processed as slurry, but solid manure is the most common in stanchion-tied stables.
  • Nearly 85% of pig places have a partially slatted floor and manure is handled as slurry.
  • In 2010, furnished cages and multi-tiered aviary systems had an equal number of laying hen places as traditional battery cages. (The use of traditional battery cages is to be discontinued by 2012.)
  • The manure storage space on cattle farms is enough for almost 11 months and that of pig farms for an average of more than 11 months.
