Headlines
- A third of Finland’s 64,000 farms and horticultural enterprises also engage in other gainful activities besides agriculture.
- On close to 90 per cent of farms, the other gainful activities involve the farm.
- Diversified farms are most commonly found in cities, areas close to cities and sparsely populated areas.
- Almost two in five farms in Lapland and Uusimaa are diversified.
- More crop farms are diversified than livestock farms.
- 22,600 members of farmer families work in other gainful activities related to the farm.
- 9,100 hired workers are employed in other gainful activities.
- On about 40 per cent of diversified farms, other gainful activities generate less than EUR 10,000 in net sales per year.
- Most diversified farms are engaged in the provision of services in fields such as contracting or tourism.
Other preliminary and final results of agricultural census will be published over autumn and winter 2011-12.
