Description

The statistics contain monthly and annual information on milk production, the number of milk producers as well as milk product production volumes, domestic sales and inventories, amongst other things. Furthermore, the annual statistics contain information about on-farm usage volumes and the average yield of dairy cows. The statistics are based on data collected monthly from dairies. In addition, the annual statistical information is based on data collected from farmers and, for on-farm milk usage, on estimates.

Content

The statistics contain information on milk production, the volume of organic milk produced, the number of milk producers as well as the protein and fat content of milk. Furthermore, the statistics contain information on production volumes of fresh products and butter, cheese and powder production volumes, domestic sales and inventories. In addition, the annual statistics contain information about on-farm milk usage and the average yield of dairy cows. On-farm milk usage is divided into three categories: milk used in food management, milk fed to livestock, and other uses. These other uses include direct sales and milk used to produce farm cheese and farm butter.

Data is available for the whole of Finland.

Data collection and sources

Data for the monthly statistics is collected from dairies using a statistical form. The dairies within the scope of data collection include all dairies that receive milk from producers as well as some dairies that do not receive milk but manufacture milk products. The on-farm milk usage statistics are drawn up using a sample of data collected from farmers every other year. On those years when data is not collected from farmers, on-farm milk usage is based on estimates.

Update frequency

Statistics are drawn up monthly.

Preparation and publication schedule

Each month’s data is published on the last day of the next month or the following working day. The annual statistics are published on the last day of February or the following working day.
