Description

The annual statistics on regional milk production contain data on milk production and the numbers of milk producers by municipality, Employment and Economic Development Centre, and EU support area. Data on regional milk production is also available by other regional classifications. The statistics are based on data held in the Milk Quota Register.

Data content

The statistics contain information on the volume of milk each farm has supplied to dairies. They also give the number of milk producers by quota period and calendar year, as well as by municipality, Employment and Economic Development Centre, and EU support area. A quota period runs from 1 April to 31 March. Milk production volumes are presented in litres and milk producers by the number of farms.

The classification of farms into regions is based on the municipality in which a farm’s administrative centre is located.

Information on regional milk production is available by, for example, municipality, Employment and Economic Development Centre, Rural Advisory Centre, province and EU support area.

Data collection and sources

The milk production by area statistics are based on data held in the Milk Quota Register, which contains all producers that supply milk to dairies. The register is updated on a monthly basis, with dairies entering the volume of milk that they have purchased from each producer.

Update frequency

Statistics are drawn up annually.

Preparation and publication schedule

Data for the previous quota period and calendar year is available at the end of May of the following year.

Time series

Regional data is available from the 1980s onwards. Data comparable to the information contained in the current statistics is available from the quota period 1997/1998 onwards.
